Hi there! I’m back with my reviews and new kdramas to share!
Okay firstly, how many of you are tired of your regular and typical female lead in kdramas. Ones where they are stupid but nice so get the guy? I’m so tired of them! I’ve reached the point where I cannot tolerate with it anymore
So today I’ll be recommending kdramas that have “badass” female leads and female leads that are not typical for kdramas
Please recommend some GOOD Korean dramas that showcase sword fighting or martial arts Your number one Asian entertainment forum, serving the community since 2013. Korean martial arts (Hangul: 무술, Hanja: 武術, musul or Hangul: 무예, Hanja: 武藝, muye) are fighting practices and methods which have their place in the history of Korea but have been adapted for use by both military and non-military personnel as a method of personal growth or recreation. The history of Korean martial arts can be traced as far back as the prehistoric era.
1) The king 2 hearts:
Kim hang ah: A North Korean Special Forces officer and instructor known in the military to be an “Iron Lady” with absolutely no femininity within her. She is the only daughter of the Deputy Minister of the North Korean Ministry of Unification. Although tough and fearsome on the surface, at heart she is a shy maiden who struggles to find her companion for life.
My opinion of her: she was the best female lead ever in the start of the drama, she is one feisty and powerful woman, however the description of her isn’t totally accurate as she can be quite feminine at times. She goes through some tough moments and is a great character for those who are looking for a tough female lead. However throughout the series, she starts losing her “badassness” but she doesn’t lose too much of it.
2) nice guy / innocent man
Seo eun gi: Is the rich heiress a to family that owns the large corporation Taesan. She has been groomed to become the successor to the Taesan corporation and, consequently, shows very little emotions.
My opinion: She was great. Although she isn’t like Kim Hang Ah, eun gi does not use her strength to demonstrate how bad she is. Eun gi shows us how great a Korean drama female lead can be by using her brain, and demonstrating how clever she is. I loved her character she was emotionless but learnt to feel.
3) I hear your voice:
Hye sung: Smart and hardworking, Hye-sung was raised by a poor but loving mother. After being falsely accused of causing an incident involving fireworks, she gets expelled from high school. She bravely testifies on the witness stand, causing the murderer of Park Soo-ha’s father to be convicted and imprisoned. But both experiences change her, and ten years later, Hye-sung is an apathetic public defender who doesn’t care about her clients and only does her job for the salary
My opinion: I loved her character so funny yet so clever at the same time. Her smartness never seizes to amaze me. A bit like eun gi, shows how bad she is through demonstrating her intelligence.
4) reply 1997
Shi won: She’s the ultimate fangirl who lives for boyband H.O.T . Shi-won is last place in her class and has her head firmly in the clouds (when her exasperated father asks what she’s going to be when she grows up, her totally heartfelt answer: “I’m going to be Tony (member of the band H.O.T)oppa’s wife!”), but she’s also forthright and sassy.
My opinion: Yes I know, she is quite a bit like your regular female lead (from the description) but trust me, she definitely isn’t! Although she lacks intelligent like all the other characters listed, shi won makes up for it with ultimate sass and a straightforward attitude. She is totally funny and is a very realistic and relatable character
5) My love from the star
Cheon song yi:A top star who is very blunt and believes that she is every man’s type, until she meets her stoic neighbor, Do Min-joon. She soon develops feelings for him and tries to make him fall for her.
My Opinion: her character is very similar to shi won’s. She’s so hilarious that I can’t breathe. She’s a bit like the female version of your regular male lead.
6) Gu family book
Dam yeol woo: A martial arts instructor at her father’s school, she is particularly skilled with a bow and arrow. When she was younger, Kang-chi saved her from being attacked by a dog and she never forgot about him. She then falls in love with him when they meet again. She also accepts Kang-chi for who he is inside even though he is a divine creature that many people are afraid of.
My opinion: woah I loved her. She was great shes so bad when she’s fighting. And ohh you’ll just fall in love with her. She’s brave, smart and very skilled. I loved her character. If you want to see some sword fighting this drama is the one for you.
7) empress ki
Ki seung nyang: She was dragged away to become a tribute woman to Yuan during her childhood but managed to escape the fate, only to have her mother die in the process. She grows up disguising as a man to avenge her mother’s death. Her target is the royalty Wang Go and she meets the King of Goryeo when carrying out her plan of revenge. Seung-nyang becomes a part of the army and she is given the task to escort the Crown Prince of Yuan in Goryeo, who is being exiled.
My opinion: This woman is beyond intelligent, strong, powerful, brave….. Never in a Korean drama will you find a female lead like this. Incrediblytough and amazing. A must watch drama for those who love tough female leads
8) City hunter
Kim nana: Na-na was forced to take care of herself at an early age after her mother was killed in a drunk driving accident. Her exceptional skills in martial arts eventually earns her an assignment with the president security service.During her time as a bodyguard, she falls in love with Lee Yoon-sung and eventually discovers his real identity.
Best Sword Fighting Korean Drama List
My opinion: She is so good at fighting and doesn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. bravery is also one of the qualitis kim nana has. She’s badder than bad.
